Women Cultivating Change

Sustainable agriculture as a pathway to income, independence and safety.

About the project

Women Cultivating Change supports adolescent girls and young women aged 15–28 in Sumbawanga who are survivors of rape and sexual violence and have low or no income. The project combines sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation and entrepreneurship to strengthen economic independence and reduce vulnerability to gender-based violence.

The opportunity

Economic independence can expand safety, choice and control over the future.

Survivors with little or no income can face heightened economic and social vulnerability. The project builds practical production and enterprise pathways so participants can generate income, connect to markets and live more self-reliant lives.

Project design

Connected action. Lasting change.

The project connects four mutually reinforcing areas to address the challenge as a whole.

01

Sustainable farming

Hands-on training builds practical, environmentally responsible production skills.

02

Entrepreneurship

Business learning helps participants turn production into viable income opportunities.

03

Demonstration and inputs

Demonstration farms and a manure-production centre create spaces for practice and shared learning.

04

Market connection

Linkages to markets help participants move from training toward sustainable income.

How the project is delivered

Change grows through practical, locally grounded action.

Participants remain at the center of the process—building knowledge, services, skills and relationships that respond to the realities of their lives.
