About PGWOCADE

Local roots. National ambition.

PGWOCADE is a female-led organization founded in 2015 and registered on 16 April 2018 under Tanzania's NGO Act, 2002. We work to create an equal world that advances the rights of girls and women.

Our story

A local idea that grew into a movement.

PGWOCADE was founded by Dr. Jackline Tung’ombe, then a university student, in response to the education gap she witnessed in her Sumbawanga community.

We began as a volunteer movement promoting girls’ education and addressing child marriage in Rukwa. Today, our work connects education, health, protection and economic opportunity—working alongside communities to remove the barriers that keep girls and women from thriving.

    The next chapter

A new strategic plan guides organizational growth and lasting impact for girls and women.

What guides us

Clear purpose. Lasting change.

Our vision, mission and the people at the center of every decision we make.

01 / Mission

To empower and promote girls and women in realization of their goals through capacity building, development support, access to education, health and nutrition.

02 / Vision

A society integrating girls and women in the national development agenda.

03 / Who we serve

Young women and girls

We place adolescent girls and young women at the heart of our work—as participants, partners and leaders.

Theory of change

From systemic barriers to lasting agency.

We believe that when girls and young women gain knowledge, services, skills and leadership opportunities—and the people and systems around them become more supportive—they can make informed choices, live safely and participate fully in development.

01The challenge

Connected barriers

Violence, child marriage and pregnancy, education gaps, limited health access and economic dependence restrict girls’ choices.

02What we do

Integrated action

We connect education and protection, sexual and reproductive health and rights, community health and nutrition, and career and economic development.

03Near-term change

Agency and support

Girls build knowledge, confidence, skills and service access; families, schools and leaders strengthen their protection and participation.

04Long-term impact

Girls and women thrive

Girls and young women live healthy and safe lives, achieve their education and economic goals, lead, and are included in the national development agenda.
